Cautions and Limits

Be sure to also read the Editing & Posting page before attempting to enter information on this site.

FALC is a non-profit organization and care must be taken to assure that the non-profit status is maintained.  Accordingly:

(1)  No FALC Wiki page shall be used solely to promote any individual artist or any single event or company. That is: you may not create a new page just for this purpose.

(2)  Offering prices for artwork or services may not be shown.

(3)  Page content shall be confined to the promotion of the visual arts.  No religion, politics, etc.

(4)  All page content shall be polite, meet high standards and be suitable for viewing by all ages.

(5)  The webmaster may change/remove unsuitable material.

Entering e-mail addresses directly on a website such as this almost guarantees that the holder of the address will become the recipient of frequent spam messages.  Do yourself and your friends a favor by entering the address in a slightly disguised form such as:

joeschmoe-at-schome-dot-com

An address in this form will be passed over by the spammers' robots that troll the Internet looking for addresses.  It is not clickable, but it gives enough information to allow the viewer to create a valid address.

There are some limitations of the Editme software and the Firefox browser that users should be aware of:

(1)  At the top of the editor stay on the Content tab. Everything that you need to do to edit a page can be done from this tab using the tools on the editor's toolbar. At the bottom of the editor, there is no reason for you to select Page Properties (if available) before saving the page, and if you do so your changes to the page will be lost.

(2)  Take note of the Paste from Word button on the Editor's Tools Menu Bar.  Text cannot be copied and pasted directly from MS Word as Word text contains hidden characters that cause strange things to happen when present in text on this site.  Using this button for the paste operation will popup a window that will strip out the hidden characters.  Unfortunately, some browser settings will prevent this window from appearing.  In this case copy the text from Word into a pure text editor like Notepad and then copy it again into the page you are editing.  Don't be concerned if the color and size of the text do not match the existing text - it's the content that's important.

(3)  If you are using a Linux or MAC you must use the Firefox (Mozilla) browser for the Editme software to work.  To get around Mozilla's clipboard security (Firefox will not let a Javascript application accept a control V as a paste command) use the Paste command in the Edit menu, don't use the keyboard shortcut. The pop-up message that you see when attempting to paste also includes a link to a page on the Firefox site with detailed instructions for enabling this feature (yes, it can be done but requires some editing of configuration files). Because of this PC users may find it more convenient to use Internet Explorer, but be aware that the at this time (April 2009) the EditMe editor does not function properly with IE8.  The EditMe crew is working to correct this.
