Fourth Annual Nâzim Hikmet Poetry Festival

Sunday April 15 2012 at Page-Walker Arts & History Center,
119 Ambassador Loop, Cary NC

1 PM – 6 PM, Free Admission

Nazim Hikmet Poetry Festival is an annual celebration of poetry, bringing together poets, scholars, and lovers of poetry. In its fourth year, the Festival is celebrating the Nobel Prize winning Chilean poet, and Nazim's Friend Pablo Neruda and his poetry. The festival includes two invited speakers on Neruda - Carlos Trujillo and Greg Dawes, as well as Chilean music.   Pushcart Prize-winning Joseph Millar is the featured poet of the Festival. 
Poetry readings include the Nazim Hikmet Poetry Competition winners, and representatives of various organizations such as North Carolina Poetry Society Contest Winners and Sacrificial Poets. 

There are two free poetry workshops being offered as part of the Festival: for adults by Alice Osborn (10:30 - 12:30, Ages 15 and up) and for young poets by Michael Beadle (11:00 - 12:30, Ages 11 to 14).

Children’s Day – A Global Celebration

Sunday April 22, 2012 at Cary Arts Center, 101 Dry Ave, Cary NC

1 PM – 5 PM,  Tickets: $5     Children 3 and under are FREE

Join in a gathering of children from around the world under the motto of "Love, Friendship and Peace!" Share and learn about other cultures through activities such as singing, dancing, magic, arts & crafts and more. An international tasting zone will offer tempting treats. This event is a children’s version of the international festival. It will enrich and entertain the young members of our society.

This event is organized by the American-Turkish Association of North Carolina (ATA-NC) to coincide with the Turkish national holiday dedicated to the children.

Three-day painting Workshop with Perry Austin

Nationally recognized Plein Air and Studio artist Perry Austin will offer a three-day paint session beginning en Plein Air and ending in the studio on the third day. Perry will work individually with each artist and with the group together to take their artistic talents and aspirations to a new level of competency. Participants will paint on location with Perry for two days, ending with a painting critique on the third day.

On Friday night, May 11, participating artists will be invited to hang one piece of their work in a month-long show at Waverly Artists Group Studio & Gallery.
